WorshipGod13

I was grateful that I got to attend WorshipGod13, a conference put together by Sovereign Grace Ministries in Louisville, KY. I am always thankful for the team that puts this conference together. I know how much work it is to plan something like this, so I thought I would share its impact in my life.

Things I Loved About WorshipGod13

The Atmosphere of Love: You cannot walk away from this conference without seeing and feeling the love between these fellow worship leaders and pastors. It is like a big family reunion! Everyone is seeking to encourage one another in an often discouraging life/ministry.

The Singing: You have to love the 1000 or so church leaders and musicians all singing together. And it is not just stagnate singing, it is signing with vigor and passion for the Lord’s name to be praised.

The Teaching: Not only do these conference goers like singing, but the love teaching and preaching! From every main session to breakout session, I love the way everything was taught through the lens of Christ. The main sessions taught us to be faithful in all areas of life!

Things I Learned From WorshipGod13

Love your wife. I know that doesn’t seem like something that you should learn at a worship conference, however, it is probably more important than anything else learned. Often times in ministry we focus so much on the next new song, the criticizing congregant and keeping the congregation “happy” that we lose sight of one thing: loving our spouses well. “What to be a great worship leader? Love your wife” ~ Bob Kauflin. Simple, yet so easy to forget.

“Realize that only God gets his to-do list done everyday.” Ken Boer reminded us that we can always rest that God will get His to-do list done. What a freeing thought! God will get accomplish his purposes, even when we don’t get all the way down our list.

Build and Care for your Tech Team. The tech team is probably the most neglected group in most churches. We need pastors to have a plan and a goal for their tech teams. Dave Wilcox explained that The Chief End of the Tech Team Leadership is to produce: (1) God-Centered Servants (2) Purposeful Servants (3) Peaceful Servants. What great goals to build into our Tech Teams. This is especially relevant to the position God has put me in at Southern Seminary.

Overall, I could say much more about this conference, but these are a few things I have found helpful and enjoyable from the conference. Hope to see some of you out for the next conference in 2015! For more information you can follow Bob Kauflin’s blog.
